Our department is dedicated to engaging with our stakeholders and the communities we serve, developing connections, and protecting civil rights of our employees and the public.

The CDPS Chief Compliance Officer serves as the department's federal Title VI Coordinator, providing administrative direction necessary to ensure that policies and procedures relating to Title VI are implemented and complied with throughout all divisions of the department.

Additional State Accessibility Services

Aira: Free for up to 30 minutes per session

The State of Colorado is excited to offer a new service for blind and low-vision Coloradans through a partnership with Aira, an app that provides live, on-demand visual interpreting through human-to-human assistance. Coloradans get free access for up to 30 minutes per session while navigating state locations and digital services, reducing barriers to services and creating a more welcoming Colorado for all.

Infrastructure

  • Our CDPS For All Council coordinates projects to foster stakeholder and community engagement into each division's daily work practices.
  • Our Leadership regularly communicates, reports, and coordinates with the Statewide Equity Office.
  • We offer regular events to explore and celebrate our stakeholders' cultures and to engage directly with our communities.
  • We sponsor Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), including Proud@CDPS, an ERG for LGBTQIA2S+ employees and allies.
  • Our Human Resources procedures focus on equitable, unbiased, and anti-discriminatory practices to ensure dignity, respect, and shared humanity:

       Recruitment

  • We expand our outreach to underutilized populations.
  • We utilize the SkillBridge veteran internship program to build post-service skills.

       Hiring Process

  • We use skills-based hiring practices.
  • We redact names & identifying information, including age and gender, from resumes to reduce opportunity for unconscious bias.
  • Our job candidate interviewers must complete unconscious bias and non-discrimination training.

       Compensation

  • We complete thorough compensation analysis for each new pay action to ensure equity in pay.
  • We investigate complaints of wage discrimination.
  • We conduct salary analyses and group compensation analyses.
  • We follow the step-pay program in collaboration with COWINS.

  • Our Chief Compliance Officer ensures all CDPS employees comply with Federal Civil Rights Law.
  • Our CDPS policies prohibit discrimination, harassment & retaliation.
  • Our policies meet accessibility requirements.
  • Our policies integrate bridging principles based on our shared purpose, our culture, and our engagement practices.

Engagement and Training

  • All CDPS employees must complete mandatory Civil Rights and non-discrimination and harassment training.
  • We conduct listening & discussion sessions with our employees and our stakeholders to identify areas and needs for training or additional professional development.
  • We offer beginning, intermediate, and advanced training in belonging and engagement practices.
