Providing death benefits to survivors of fallen first responders. Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS) extends its condolences to you on the loss of your colleague or loved one and understands that this is a difficult time. Our online system has been designed with you in mind, to impose the least possible burden while providing our office with the information required to file your application.

Recognizing Bravery & Sacrifice

To help recognize the courage and disregard for personal safety that law enforcement and other first responders have when faced with dangerous situations, the federal Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) oversees the Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery and the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor. Additionally, through the Public Safety Officers' Benefits Program, BJA provides benefits to first responders and their families. Learn more about these programs:
